Today has actually been a rather productive day for me. I got back to reading and just finished The Mystical Qabalah. I’m really excited about that, but we haven’t gotten to today’s tarot card yet! Ironically, the card for today is:
Queen of Pentacles
The traditional representation of this card is actually much nicer than I remember. For some reason, I generally dislike the Pentacles suit in general. This is strange, as I’m a Taurus sign. Perhaps I’m just controlling that material side to myself (I hope). What I love about this card though is the grace and kindness I see in it. The Queen cradles the pentacle, her material possession. She cares about it, looks on it fondly.
Somehow, I’m becoming at home in the non-traditional tarot decks. The Deviant Moon Tarot still isn’t my favorite, but it’s growing on me. The representation for this card though, seems a little harsh. I know what they’re getting at, but the poor Queen looks greedy. Perhaps the children are things yet to be nurtured? Perhaps the Deviant Moon Tarot simply showcases the worst of a card? I don’t know! The Gilded Tarot brings me somewhat back to normal. But, I can’t help but think of Hera, who I don’t find very nurturing personally. The Mythic Tarot is interesting, portraying Queen Omphale. This is an interesting myth to look up if you haven’t heard about her before.
Okay, as far as New Vision cards go, I do like this one a great deal. I think the engraving or carving on the back of the Queen’s throne says more about her. There’s a double meaning in there somewhere, probably in line with the myth and lessons of Queen Omphale. I do like that. For those who added insight into this card, here’s a definition from Aeclectic Tarot:
“At her best, however, this is the Queen of success. She has the patience, good sense and determination to make things happen. She knows how to make dreams a reality.”
